Organizing The Middle East and North Africa Renewable Energy Conference MENAREC4, is in progress, to be held in Damascus-SYRIA 21-24 June 2007. This event is organized by the Ministry of Electricity represented by National Energy Research Centre (NERC) in Syria, in cooperation with the German Ministry for the Environment, Nature Conservation and Nuclear Safety (BMU), United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia (ESCWA), and United Nations Environment Program (UNEP), and supported by New and Renewable Energy Authority in Egypt, National Energy Research center in Jordan, and Euro-Arab Cooperation Center (VEA).

This Topic will cover the following
· New works in the field of RE resources assessment at the national, sub-regional and regional levels
· Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency (RE/EE): Potential Applications, Programmes, Opportunities and Barriers at the National, sub-regional and Regional levels
3. State-of-the-Art of Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency (RE/EE) Technologies
This topic will present the State-of the-Art and the latest innovations on:
· Solar Thermal Applications, Solar Thermal Electricity
· RE/EE for low energy architecture
· Grid Connected and Stand Alone Solar Photovoltaic Applications

· Objectives, status and results of the MENA-Europe Cooperation Initiatives being implemented currently, and the synergy of their efforts to create a roadmap for scaling up the deployment for RE/EE application projects in the MENA region.
· Existing opportunities and foreseen measures to encourage and enhance RE technology transfer for promoting RE/EE applications in the MENA region
· Opportunities for South-South and North South Technology Transfer
5. Policies and Legislations for Promoting Renewable Energy in the MENA Region
This topic will assess review and propose the following:
· Existing policies and legislations that support renewable energy development and its effectiveness
· New practical measures / legislations for accelerating the promotion of RE/EE applications
· RE/EE strategies and policies in the Arab Countries within the framework of CSD15
6. Financing and Awareness Tools to Promote Renewable Energy Applications in a Regional and Local Context
This topic will review and propose:
· Available approaches to encourage financing of RE/EE projects in the MENA region
· New innovative approaches/mechanisms for promoting RE/EE in the MENA Region
· How capital and investment can serve as driving force to commercialize RE/EE Technologies
7. Measures for Enhancing Renewable Energy Contribution in the Energy Mix in the MENA Region:
This topic will present:
· The measures for enhancing the contribution of RE resources to the energy mix in the MENA Region
· Possibilities of RE/EE Applications to be considered in the CDM and Carbon capturing and storage Mechanisms
· Water Desalination techniques utilizing RE and EE technologies
